Welcome to Music Education at Auburn University!

The Music Education program, faculty, and courses are housed in the College of Education in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. Auburn University Music Education degrees are offered in collaboration with the Department of Music. We offer four degree programs and one minor:

(1) Bachelor of Music Education

(2) Master of Music Education

(3) Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Music Education

(4) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Music Education

(5) Minor in Community Music

Music education faculty members believe that all levels of learners should be provided with musical experiences that lead to appreciation for music, creation and performance in music, an understanding of the role and value of music in everyday life, and opportunities to develop musical skills and knowledge. They are committed to training high quality music educators who are (1) well-prepared to teach music/music education to students from pre-kindergarten through collegiate levels, and (2) committed to music as a lifelong activity, whether through church or community organizations.

Music Education faculty members are also committed to improving music education training for new and existing teachers, increasing or providing opportunities for music education in schools where there is no music, and completing research to increase professional knowledge in the best ways to teach and learn music.
