Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.E.)

This degree is for undergraduate level students wishing to major in music education. Successful completion of the degree leads to inital certication in vocal, instrumental, and vocal/instrumental combined N-12 teacher certification in Alabama. Check with Professional Education Services for more information about certification reciprocation in other states.

Master of Music Education (M.Ed. or M.S.)

The Music Education M.Ed. and M.S. programs provide certified instrumental, vocal, and general music teachers with focused study of music education appropriate to a graduate level. The program enhances the professional development of the music educator and provides a thorough foundation for those students eventually choosing to pursue doctoral study. Click here for more information (or click "Graduate" above).

Specialist in Education in Music Education (Ed.S.)

The Specialist degree program provides certified instrumental, vocal, and general music teachers with focused study of music education appropriate to a graduate level. It is designed for teachers who wish to increase their knowledge and skills beyond the masters level, but who may not be interested in the Ph.D. program. However, many students have completed the Ed.S. and continued to complete the Ph.D. The Specialist in Music Education program provides for advanced training in music education and culminates with a field project in which students demonstrate thorough understanding of application of research and theory in music education.Click here for more information (or click "Graduate" above).

Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education (Ph.D.)

The Ph.D. in Music Educdation provides students with focused study of music education appropriate to an advanced graduate level. This program is for teachers who want to complete the terminal degree in music education and those who wish to teach music or music education at the collegiate level. The Ph.D. in Music Education program provides for advanced training in music education and culminates with a dissertation in which students conduct a comprehensive scholarly examination of a selected topic in music education.Click here for more information (or click "Graduate" above).
