Savrda Named Interim COSAM Dean
Dr. Charles E. “Chuck” Savrda has been named interim dean at Auburn University’s College of Sciences and Mathematics, effective immediately. Savrda was first appointed as interim dean following the tragic death of Marie Wooten last fall.  This past spring, the decision was made to conduct an internal search for an interim dean that would serve for the next two years.  Following the recommendation of the search committee, Savrda will continue as interim dean and will not be a candidate for the permanent dean position.  
"We are fortunate to have Dr. Savrda continue in what has become a familiar role for him," Interim Provost Boosinger said. “I am confident that Dr. Savrda will continue to provide outstanding leadership for the College of Sciences and Mathematics, and I am excited about the college's future.”
Prior to serving as interim dean, Savrda served as chair of the Department of Geology and Geography from 2005 to 2010, and also as graduate program officer from 1995-2005. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Geological Sciences from Rutgers University and his master's and doctorate in Geological Sciences from the University of Southern California.  A faculty member at Auburn since 1986, Savrda was promoted to full professor in 1995.
