Free Modern Korean Calligraphy Workshop Offered April 23
The Auburn University Office of International Programs and the Auburn-Keimyung Korea Center will host a free workshop on modern Korean calligraphy April 23 from 9:30 to noon at the Hubert and Grace Harris Senior Center.
Visiting artist Byoung Chul Park will demonstrate the art of calligraphy with special brushes on Korean paper or hanji. The demonstration presents various facets of Korean calligraphy, which constitutes an intricate convergence of characters and design forms. Using a variety of writing techniques, the artist transcribes Korean poems and literature into flowing strokes of "grass hand," the bold, angular characters known as "running hand," and several other styles. With these living forms of art, participants can explore the range of human expression in Korean alphabet and design.
Spaces are limited and are available on a first-come, first served basis; participants are encouraged to arrive early. The Harris Senior Center is located at 425 Perry St., Auburn, AL 36830.
