Job Search Seminar Scheduled

Attention Instructors, Ph.D. candidates, and all interested parties!
A Job Search Seminar will be held next Monday, September 25th, at 3:00 p.m. in HC 3104. Jon Bolton and Joy Leighton will review job search strategies, provide sample cover letters and curriculum vitae, and discuss how to prepare your dossier for the job search in English.

Session on the Americans with Disabilities Act and on Sexual Harassment

Each year we arrange for a special session on the Americans with Disabilities Act and on sexual harassment to be given for the English Department. This year's session is scheduled for 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2000 (room to be arranged). The presenters will be Kelly Haynes (Director, Program for Students with Disabilities) and Janet Saunders (Executive Director, Affirmative Action-Equal Opportunity Office). The session is mandatory for new faculty members, new GTAs, and department members who were not able to attend a previous session. Of course others are also welcome to attend.

Picture Perfect Picnic

The sun came out just in time for Craig Bertolet to snap pictures of the record crowd at this year's English Department picnic. In case you missed it or had your eyes closed, check out the
Picture Gallery.

Panels, Speakers Needed for English Hours

If you are interested in organizing a panel or presenting a paper for colleagues in the English Department, I'm still looking for presenters for both fall and spring semesters. For more information, or to schedule an English Hour, please contact George Crandell.

Question of the Week

With each publication of The English Channel, I'll be selecting a "Question of the Week" to feature in The English Channel Forum. Of course, I ask that you please send me your suggestions, by the usual deadline for the publication of the newsletter. This week's question: "What are some good strategies for getting a discussion started?" Please respond to the question in the Forum. If you have a suggestion for "Question of the Week," please send it to George Crandell. If you've forgotten your password, please contact George Crandell.

Marvyn Petrucci's article on the relationship between Robert Frost and Amy Lowell appears in the current issue of The Robert Frost Review.
