Provost’s Office Guidelines for a Common Mobile Platform

Research data suggests that proper faculty development and in-class student support maximize the success for learning using a common mobile device in and beyond the classroom. Allowing faculty and students to choose the device they use in learning further improves academic impact. To support a Choose Your Own Device (CYOD) model, the Provost’s eLearning Workgroup have devised the following guidelines regarding common functionalities to help aid faculty technology choices.

Devices that best support learning conform to these specifications:

  •  Screen size: minimum of 7 inches
  • Content creation capabilities: include a camera and a microphone
  • Connectivity capabilities: web-enabled, capable of connecting to Canvas (via an app or the web)
  • Security compliance: must be encrypted according to Auburn policy
  • Accessibility assurance: incorporates hardware or app-based tools to provide access to materials in alignment for Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
