Administrative & Professional Assembly Auburn University

Robert Gottesman, Chair, called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m. He addressed the Assembly with closing remarks as the outgoing Chair.

Representatives present: Judy Allen, Shawn Asmuth, Tommy Bartlett, Thina Biblis, Beth Cromwell, Kim Durbin, Carl Gagliano, Jane Goff, Robert Gottesman, Ellyn Hix, Mickie Jacob, Jack Lawton, Minnie Melton, Michael Miller, Donna Mitcham, Kevin Robinson, Tom Sparrow, Burnette Tolbert, and Ted Trupp.

The minutes from the April 21, 1998 were reviewed. Jacob pointed out spelling errors. Asmuth moved that the minutes be accepted as amended. Melton seconded and the motion carried.

Gottesman presented Ellyn Hix from University Computing representing the Provost area and Kevin Robinson from Internal Auditing representing the Presidential area as the Nominations and Elections Committees nominees for Chair-elect of the A&P Assembly Executive Committee. Robinson won the election.

The nominees for Secretary were Burnette Tolbert from Purchasing representing the VP for Business & Finance area and Donna Mitchum from AUHCC representing the VP for Administrative Services area. Mitcham won the election.

The nominees for Members At-Large were Jane Goff from Foy Union representing the VP for Student Affairs, Tom Sparrow from the Coliseum representing the Presidential area and Mickie Jacob from University Computing representing the Provost area. One nominee from the floor was Ellyn Hix from University Computing representing the Provost area. Asmuth moved that the nominations be closed and Robinson seconded the motion. Goff, Sparrow and Hix won the election.

Gottesman thanked the Nominations and Elections Committee for their work.

Gottesman discussed the A&P Handbook. The changes that were approved by the A&P Assembly was not printed and the prior version presented by the Handbook Committee was printed. The Executive Committee met with Dr. Ferguson and Darwin Liverance to discuss why the changes were not incorporated in the Handbook. Dr. Ferguson is suppose to get back to the A&P Assembly about what will be done about this. Further discussion from the Assembly followed. Trupp moved that a recommendation be made to the President that the A&P Handbook be reprinted with the changes distinguished with a revision date that were approved by the Assembly. The document needs to be seen by the Executive Committee before distribution and then properly distributed to the A&P Employee group. Miller seconded the motion. Discussion followed. The motion carried.

Gottesman discussed University Committees. A&P should have more representatives on University Committees this year and were continuing work in this area.

Gottesman discussed the Task Force to Study the Efficiency of the University. The A&P employee group did not have representation on the Commission. The President appointed Gottesman to represent the A&P employee group. Gottesman reviewed what the Task Force had been doing. He encouraged everyone to attend the next meeting.

Miller questioned the current consulting policy. Gottesman explained the new policy. With the development of the new policy A&P employees are not allowed to consult. Lawton told the Assembly that the Professional and Development Committee was working on a consulting policy.

The next meeting of the A&P Assembly is scheduled for October 20, 1998 in 217 Foy Union.

Asmuth moved for the meeting to adjourn and was seconded by Robinson. The motion carried and the meeting was adjourned.
