Meeting called to order by Chair Martha Taylor at 3:35.

Taylor indicated this special meeting was called to vote on a proposed new policy on Intimate Relations for Auburn University campus.  Taylor gave a brief history of this new policy which included - written by the Affirmative Action Office; approved by Senate; presented to the President=s Cabinet; rejected because AP Assembly and Staff Council had not voted on policy.  If the new policy is to be placed on the June 11 Board of Trustees agenda, all three groups must approve the policy without changes.  Assembly called today to vote on policy.

Taylor indicated that the Staff Council will not be able to meet before the June 11 Board meeting.

Discussions of the policy included need for policy, existing policies already on campus such as sexual harassment and nepotism policies; why Human Resources was not involved in policy creation, vagueness of policy; and wording of policy.

Janet Saunders, Affirmative Action Office, discussed why the policy is needed, how previous cases were handled, gave a list of Universities that already have a policy, and indicated students and parents believe such a policy should exist..

A motion and a second was made to vote on policy as written.  The policy was rejected as written.

A motion and second was made to appoint a sub-committee to revise policy to be submitted to President Cabinet.  This motion was approved by Assembly.  Members of the sub-committee are Drew Burgering, Maria Folmar, Cathy Ramey, Melissa Long and Cara Mia Pugh, Chair.

Assembly adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
