Auburn University's SACS Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)


The second draft of Auburn's Quality Enhancement Plan is now available for review. In addition to the QEP draft, you can also download a copy of the introductory letter from Richard Burt, chair of the QEP Development Committee, with instructions for reviewing the draft, and a copy of a document from SACS that outlines the evaluation criteria that SACS reviewers will use to judge Auburn's Quality Enhancement Plan. We invite you to review the draft and provide feedback. Comments on the draft plan should be sent via email to qep@auburn.edu.

After extensive study and exploration, Auburn University has selected a project to enhance student learning with e-portfolios as the focus of its SACS Quality Enhancement Plan for 2013. An e-portfolio is a collection of digital artifacts—such as text, visual materials, or sound files—designed to demonstrate students' learning and accomplishments. E-portfolios can also promote learning by providing students with new ways to organize and reflect on the digital materials they have produced.

The e-portfolio project was one of four possible QEP ideas that were presented by the QEP Exploratory Committee in May. To turn the project idea into a working plan, a QEP Development Committee has been appointed. Chaired by Richard Burt, head of the McWhorter School of Building Science, this nine-person committee will be seeking ideas and assistance from faculty, staff, students and other members of the Auburn family.

According to the SACS standards, to be acceptable a QEP project must emerge from institutional assessment and mission; focus on learning outcomes; include broad-based involvement; and demonstrate the institution's capacity to devise, implement, complete and assess a significant learning initiative. The Development Committee has been charged with producing a full working plan of Auburn's QEP for review and comment by September 2012. The final QEP document will be submitted to SACS in January 2013 and will be a major focus when a team of peer evaluators from SACS visits the campus in March of that year.
