A mass spectrometer lens directs ions in the instrument using numerous mechanisms including physical, electrical, and magnetic forces. They are used to ensure that only charged molecules with the correct properties enter the analyzer. This type of lens directs charged particles or ions.
You maybe more familiar with a glass lens such as the type used in a magnifier or a microscope. This type of lens directs particles of light.
