What is Middle School AMP’d?

The Middle School AMP’d challenge is held each fall. The event is a problem solving challenge in which teams of 6 – 8 middle school students to work together to 'complete their mission' by answering real mathematical puzzles. The focus of Middle School AMP’d is for students of all math ability levels to engage in math in a way that is fun, interesting, and different from a traditional math class.

Students will:

  • Work as a team to solve mathematics puzzles
  • Use practical applications of mathematics
  • Acquire competence and confidence through self-directed learning
  • Engage in applied technology
  • Develop leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills

Who may participate?

Schools may enter a maximum of two teams, each of which should have a minimum of 6 and maximum of 8 students. Each team must have at least one teacher chaperone in attendance and a second teacher or parent chaperone for schools registering two teams. All students must be current 6th, 7th, or 8th graders.

How much does it cost to participate?

The cost is $125.00 for the first team and $225.00 for two teams from the same school. The program fees include participation certificates, lunch, snacks (morning and afternoon), drinks, and a t-shirt for each student (and one teacher/adult sponsor/team). Additionally, all schools will receive a commemorative participation plaque.
