Title: Analytical and Numerical Studies of Electromagnetic Wave Propagation in Nanostructures

Abstract: This talk is concerned with mathematical studies of light-structure interactions in nano devices. As a presentation for the third year review, I will start with an overview of my research program. Then I will focus on three mathematical problems arising in the control of electromagnetic waves in engineered nanostructures: field enhancement for metallic nanogaps, scattering resonances in photonic crystals, and super-resolution imaging of nanostructures. The fundamental mathematical issues will be examined from both analytical and numerical perspectives. Several ongoing and future work along this direction will also be highlighted.
