The Southeastern Center of Robotics Education (SCORE) held its annual Southern Regional VEX Robotics Conference at Auburn University on October 10-11, 2019. The conference provided professional development opportunities for teachers across the southeast through hands-on workshops and technical sessions. Presentation topics ranged from the basics of competing in VEX tournaments to hosting robotics tournaments in addition to 3D printing, coding and programming.

“Faith, Climate, and Our Culture in the U.S.” A talk by Katherine Hayhoe

Dr. Katharine Hayhoe is an atmospheric scientist who studies climate change, one of the most pressing issues facing humanity today. But Katharine may be best-known to many people because of how she’s bridging the broad, deep gap between scientists and Christians — work she does in part because she’s a Christian herself. She’s been named by Christianity Today as one of their 50 Women to Watch and currently hosts the PBS digital series, Global Weirding: Climate, Politics and Religion. She will be presenting her talk: “Faith, Climate, and Our Culture in the U.S.” for the 2020 Sustainability Speaker Series at 7:00 PM on February 6, 2020.

Auburn families looking for kid-friendly Halloween activities were treated with the Donald E. Davis Arboretum's Bones and Boos event. Partnering with the Auburn Museum of Natural History, and the College of Veterinary Medicine’s Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology Department, the Arboretum invited auburn citizens and their families to a day filled with eerie displays of bones from various animals, including whale ribs and rhinoceros’ legs.

COSAM Professor Discovers New Fish Genus, Species

When Jonathan Armbruster first began his career in the Auburn University Department of Biological Sciences 21 years ago, his first research trip was to Guyana in search of new species of fish. During the trip, with the help of Patamona Amerindians, Armbruster boated up the Essequibo and Potaro Rivers to a waterfall called Kaieteur Falls. He didn’t know at the time, but this trip would mark the beginning of many new discoveries.

COSAM Physicist Wins Air Force’s Young Investigator Research Program Award for $450,000

Dr. Ryan Comes is the first recipient from Auburn University selected for the Air Force’s Young Investigator Research Program Award. He joins a cohort on only 40 researchers in 2019 given this prestigious honor as being the one of the most promising scientists and engineers who received a doctoral degree during the last seven years and demonstrate exceptional capabilities for conducting research that can advance military interests.
