Former COSAM student meets with top scientists to discuss future of veteran rehabilitation
Joshua Jarrell, a 2005 graduate in applied mathematics and a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army, was selected to meet with top scientists from the Georgia Institute of Technology at the Center for the Intrepid in San Antonio to discuss the future of prosthetic technology, amputee care and soldier rehabilitation. The Center for the Intrepid is a facility designed to aid wounded service members with severe extremity injuries, burns and amputations. Jarrell’s research examines direct skeletal attachment of prostheses, which holds high potential for upper and lower limb combat amputees. The meeting included discussions with current veteran-patients at the Center for the Intrepid regarding prosthetics and rehabilitation. While at Auburn, Jarrell pursued a minor in music, was selected as a NSF Graduate Research Fellow, served as a math tutor and continued his military obligations, including deployment to Iraq for a year. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in applied physiology at Georgia Tech with a focus on prosthetics.
