Graduate Student Council

The Graduate Student Council serves the unique needs of Auburn’s graduate and professional students through a network of support and encouragement. We operate as a collective voice for our members, acting as the official graduate student representation in university affairs and the Student Government Association (SGA). We encourage all graduate and professional students to become active in our organization.

GSC is made up of an Executive Board (elected: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Executive Vice Presidents; hired: AVP) and Senate (consisting of 2 senators from each department with a graduate program at AU). Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of every month of the fall and spring academic semesters.

To be a Senator:

• You must be able to attend monthly in-person GSC Senate meetings, held from 7pm- 8pm on the last Wednesday of each month classes are in session.
• You must be able to serve on the GSC for a full academic year (fall and spring semesters).
• Serve on at least one GSC committee to promote graduate student endeavors on Auburn's campus (Student Research Symposium, Three-Minute Thesis Competition, social events, etc.) 
• Have the opportunity to serve on a University/Senate committee (http://www.auburn.edu/administration/president/univcomm/ and http://www.auburn.edu/administration/governance/senate/pages/senate_committees.html), which requires you to attend in-person or virtual meetings (typically once a month).
• Communicate with the graduate students in your department regarding topics of discussion at Senate and committee meetings, graduate student needs and issues, and­ GSC events.

The GSC sponsors social events for graduate students throughout the year, including colloquia featuring speakers discussing topics geared specifically toward graduate students, social events, and various graduate student appreciation events with free food and drinks.
