AU Software

Software for Departments

AU Software, a division of the Office of Information Technology (OIT), establishes and maintains site and volume license agreements for the benefit of the Auburn University community.  These license agreements may include commonly used software programs and applications that are required in support of the vision and mission of Auburn University. For specific information, please view the software list and brief summary of each title. Click on the title to expand the section.

Licensing agreements are typically restricted to University-owned computers and employees; however, some provide limited “at home use” licensing for faculty and staff. Each agreement contains specific terms and conditions. Use of the licensed software is restricted to University academic, business, and research purposes. Additional information is provided in the title summary regarding product use and availability.

Due to licensing restrictions and for security purposes, all computers downloading software must be logged on to the University’s network through the Auburn domain or using a VPN connection. If you cannot connect by one of these methods, contact your IT provider or the OIT HelpDesk at 334-844-4944.

Microsoft Campus Agreement

Description

The Microsoft Campus Agreement provides licenses for specific Microsoft products for participating departments. Software licensing and maintenance are combined into an annual subscription program allowing participants to keep the selected products and applications updated.

  • Microsoft Office Enterprise for Windows and Mac
  • Microsoft Windows Operating System upgrade/downgrade (full license required)

Licensing Information & Restrictions

The annual license is for any version (i.e. rights to upgrade and downgrade) of the software packages offered for all University-owned computers, including computer labs, except for certain specifically excluded departments and employees (see Eligibility section). Orders are placed annually based on the number of full-time equivalent employees, including graduate and undergraduate student employees, in each department. For counting purposes, a department is defined as a Banner Organization. Any new faculty or staff hired during the year is automatically licensed for the current subscription year. Each subscription year runs from October 1 through September 30.

The license agreement allows the installation of any version of Microsoft Windows on a computer purchased with an OEM license for Windows OS.

Use of Campus Agreement software signifies a department’s acknowledgement and agreement to adhere to and comply with the terms and conditions of the program, the current enrollment, and the Master Agreement.

Additional details regarding the Microsoft Campus Agreement Program can be found by visiting the Microsoft license site or the Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions License Guide.

This is a three (3) year agreement, billed annually. This agreement is renewed each year in September.

Eligibility

Most University-owned computers are included in the license agreement, including faculty and staff office computers, computers in labs, department-owned laptops, and all other department-owned or leased computers on campus. Certain departments have been excluded from the Agreement because they do not use University-owned computers or the employees do not qualify for the program because they do not use institutional computers in the performance of job duties.

Student-owned computers are not included under the Campus Agreement or Home Use Program. Students should visit the AU Bookstore’s computer department to obtain discounted versions of Microsoft products.

System Requirements/Platforms

Microsoft Windows, Macintosh

Cost

This license is paid for through monthly charges posted to departmental accounts. Charges are based on the FTE count obtained at the time of renewal.
