IT for Students

Accounts, Access, & Security

Your Auburn University username and password are key to accessing many of the resources the Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides. Protect your identity by protecting your password.

  • Don't share your username and password with anyone
  • Choose a long, strong password (use upper/lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters)
  • Don't use personal info like your username, pet's name, phone number, or date of birth in your password
  • For more information, see the Knowledge Base article on Creating a Strong Password.

When you activated your account you should have set up security questions so you can reset your own password within MyAccount. If you need help with your password, contact the IT Service Desk.

2-Factor authentication with Duo Security

Duo Security is the product Auburn University uses for securing logins with 2-factor authentication, which is a secondary proof of identity such as being in possession of your smartphone in addition to knowing your password. Various Auburn systems and applications require 2-factor authentication. (e.g., direct deposit areas of AU Access and the VPN Client). You are strongly encouraged to go ahead and register multiple devices with Duo. For more information on Duo, visit aub.ie/duokb.

  • For instructions on setting up Duo for the first time, visit aub.ie/duosetupkb.
  • For instructions on reactivating Duo if you have a new phone and the app is disabled, visit aub.ie/duoreactivate.

Check out many more security tips and best practices at the Cybersecurity Center.

AU Access

AU Access is where students connect to almost all online resources. A link to AU Access is located at the top right of the AU homepage, or go directly to auaccess.auburn.edu.

For more information on navigating AU Access, visit aub.ie/newauaccesshelp and aub.ie/newauaccesscards.

EBILL

Auburn does not mail paper copies of tuition and fees bills to students or parents. You will receive a notice to your Auburn email address when your eBill is ready. You can view your statement and make payments online, but eBill won't be available until you receive your first notice via email in July. Students access eBill in the My Finances section of AU Access. If someone other than you will be paying the bills, you will need to add them as an Authorized User within the eBill system. Authorized Users can log into eBill from the Business and Administration – Billing Information page or directly at ebill.auburn.edu.

CANVAS

Instructors use Canvas to deliver course material, host discussion threads and chat rooms, post quizzes and grades, and receive assignments electronically. Get the Canvas app from your mobile device app store. Support for canvas is at aub.ie/canvashelp.

Additional Canvas help guides and articles can be found on the Biggio Center’s Instructional Technology website

EMAIL

Email is considered an official means of communication on campus and you are responsible for checking it for official messages from your instructors, the administration, and other Auburn University departments. For additional information on Auburn University email, visit aub.ie/emailkb. OIT has partnered with Microsoft to bring you the full Microsoft 365 suite, including Outlook Email.  Here are few other features:

  • Email and Calendaring - including use of your @auburn.edu email address after graduation; for additional information on alumni email, visit the Knowledge Base article Email After Graduation or Retirement.
  • Microsoft Office Apps - including Word, Excel, PowerPoint & OneNote
  • OneDrive - password protected online storage for personal files "in the cloud"

FAMILY PORTAL

Parents and family members can request access to view their student's grades, schedule, financial aid, and eBill through the Auburn University Family Portal. Students will receive an email in which they can approve the request and grant varying levels of access. Students can approve or modify access at any time by visiting familyportal.auburn.edu and using their Auburn credentials to log in. If a student is having problems with the system, they can email for assistance.

Hardware & Software

Buying a Computer?

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) does not provide purchasing recommendations for any specific computers, but certain academic units have recommendations based on various software programs that students will be running while in certain courses. For more information on college-specific computer recommendations, visit aub.ie/computerrecs. For information on computer hardware discounts for students, visit aub.ie/hardware.

Software Discounts

Auburn University provides each enrolled student with a subscription to Microsoft 365 (up to 5 devices). Learn more at aub.ie/getmicrosoft365. For instructions on installing Microsoft 365 apps, visit aub.ie/officekb.

Students are eligible for an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription at no cost as long as they are actively enrolled at Auburn University. To request a free subscription, visit adobe.auburn.edu.

Free software is available to download through the Auburn University Software Catalog. Some colleges provide additional software to their students.

Computing Stations

OIT computing labs are located conveniently throughout campus in many academic buildings. These labs are available to all Auburn University students and employees on a first-come-first-serve basis. OIT labs are generally open whenever the buildings are open during the semester but may be closed during special campus events.

The OIT labs are synced to your account when you log in. This means your network space, which is often used for data storage or a website, is mapped for you. Remember to log out of OIT lab computers. For details on OIT computing lab locations and software, visit aub.ie/labs.

Printing

TigerPrint by Ricoh is a service that allows students to print files from anywhere to networked printers located across Auburn's campus. For more information on TigerPrint, visit aub.ie/tigerprintkb.
