About AUDM

Dance Marathon is a nationwide movement, involving college and high school students at over 150 schools across the country who raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network hospital in their community. All entirely student run, all donating 100% of the funds they raise directly to their local children's hospital, Dance Marathons have become a tradition on campus and in the community. These students spend a year learning invaluable leadership and social skills while raising funds in a variety of ways and interacting with children’s hospital patients and families.  The year culminates with a 12 hour long event where the students stay on their feet through dancing, games, and entertainment in order to celebrate the total amount raised that year. Why stay on your feet for that long? To quote the first Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon’s mission statement: “We dance for those who can’t.” It is this solidarity to and connection with the cause that makes Dance Marathon an event unlike any other.

Auburn University Dance Marathon started in 2009 as a project of Miss Auburn. She hoped to use the concept of a dance marathon to support the efforts of the local Habitat for Humanity. Because of its successful first year launch, raising over $12,000, the Student Government Association adopted the program and continued to sponsor the event for the next two years. This year we are excited to announce we are continuing the event that the entire campus has grown to love but partnering with a new cause – The Children’s Miracle Network. The tradition of Dance Marathon has functioned as a fundraiser for a local hospital of the Children’s Miracle Network. Auburn, home to a university known for their rich history and beloved traditions, has decided as a student body to switch this and support the Columbus Medical Center of Columbus Georgia. We are excited to have the leadership and support of Children’s Miracle Network and except to see the most growth and success at this year’s event!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should we participate in AUDM?
Outside of the obvious, which is helping to raise money to build a house for a family in need, you can become Auburn University Dance Marathon Winner 2012 and get an awesome trophy for your organization. This is the start of a huge annual event and you will help with the start of a great Auburn Tradition. Also, this is a great opportunity to earn SGA Spirit Points for your organization.

What type of team am I?
We have three types of teams; Individual Organizations, Greek Organizations, and Small Groups. There is no minimum number of dancers required, but the most you can have is 20 dancers. For larger organizations you should consider having multiple teams (ie: pledge classes for greek organizations or classes for other organizations). You should a different team captain for each team.

Do all the dancers have to come the AUDM?
YES! The whole purpose of the event is to "Stand for Kids who Can't!"

What do we wear to AUDM?
Your AUDM T-shirt and comfortable shoes! Your team needs to decide on a team color, crazy costumes, name tags, or anything that will set you apart from the other teams. GET CREATIVE, the more creative you are the more points your team will get! Each dancer will have a tag to wear with their team number on it to represent which team they are dancing for.

How is the Auburn University Dance Marathon Winner 2012 selected?
The winner is determined by the team with the most points at the end of the event. 60% is determined by points earned before and during the event 40% is determined by extra donations.

What are points and how does my team earn them?
Points are earned before and during the event. Points can be earned through registration on April 8th and 9th on the Haley Concourse from 11-4, team attire, money raised, dance offs, and other games. See the Team Pledge form about points for raising money! Also, your team can be awarded points for your team captains attending meetings prior to AUDM2012!

What will we be doing for twelve hours?
Each hour of the night has a theme ranging from 60’s to hip hop. The theme will change at the top of every hour and there will be a dance off at every half hour mark. Each dance off will have a dance winner and a costume winner that will get points for their team. Your team's Dancer "Rep" will be given all of the information closer to the event.

Is my team required to raise additional money?
No, BUT it is strongly encouraged! PLUS, there are some great incentives to raising money: every dollar raised by your team, you will get 1 point. A point per dollar! That’s so easy! Donor Drive also makes raising funds easier. The systems allows you to send e-mails to friends and family giving them a safe and secure way to donate to this great cause!
