ABOUT

My name is Bethany Heck, and I am a Graphic Design Student at Auburn University. I've been working with web design since early adolescence. It started as a hobby and grew into a skill set, a job, and a passion.

Now that I am enrolled in art and design classes at Auburn, my abilities and tastes have been stretched beyond the digital realm. Instead of studying and striving to build beautiful websites, I want to create works that can be seen as more than just websites; I want to make art with the web as my medium.

I hope you enjoy the site and my portfolio, thank you for stopping by!

Typography - Book

This was the final project in Typography. We had to select a piece of writing to base our book on. I chose a National Review article titled "Art About Nothing" by Elizabeth Fisher. The author criticizes Dada artwork, and references a poem from Tristan Tzara titled "How to make a DADA poem". I wanted to take the text of the article and create a dada piece around it as the book progressed by following the instructions in the poem. In the end, the article becomes part of the dada creation.

Typography - Syntax

We were given a choice of several quotes about graphic design, and had to design a three panel composition that visualized the quote. I chose "A good solution, in addition to being right, should have the potential for longevity. Yet I don’t think one can design for permanence. One designs for function, for usefulness, rightness, beauty. Permanence is up to God.” — Paul Rand".
