Short Bio

Jessica Melendez Tyler, Ph.D., is assistant clinical professor, Clinical Mental Health Counseling program coordinator, and the CMHC Practicum and Internship coordinator in the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, and Counseling at Auburn University. She is also a licensed professional counselor in Alabama and Georgia, a Licensed Counseling Supervisor in Alabama, a Board-Certified TeleMental Health Provider, a National Board Certified Counselor, and a Registered Yoga Teacher.

Dr. Tyler is a Humanistic counselor who utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help clients become "unstuck" and work through their life difficulties and traumas. Her clinical and research interests are working with suicidal clients and crisis counseling, issues in private practice, trauma-informed care, evidence-based practices, healthy social media behaviors, military and Veterans' issues, and counseling supervision trends. She was recognized as the Alabama Counseling Association Outstanding Practitioner in 2019, and in 2017 received the Supervision Award for the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. She also conducts trainings on Suicide First Aid (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training- ASIST) and healthy social media practices to helpers and community members.

Dr. Tyler grew up as an Army brat. She is married to her high-school sweetheart and has two daughters. When not working, she enjoys reading, practicing yoga and meditation, and generally using nature as medicine by camping, hiking, and traveling.
