Short Bio

Ellen (Reames) Hahn is a Professor of Educational Leadership at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. Her area of research is educational leadership program design. She enjoys exploring innovative ideas that promote continuous improvement in leadership preparation. Her most recent focus includes partnership development between educational leadership preparation programs, K-12 school districts, higher education leadership preparation programs, and agencies closely tied to the K-12 districts. She has published in the Journal of Research on Leadership Education, the Journal of School Leadership, and the International Journal of Educational Reform.

Dr. Hahn has published two books in her series Dimensions of Leadership and Institutional Success: Exploring Connections and Partnerships. The first book, Rural Turnaround Leadership Development: The Power of Partnerships, was released in 2018. Partnerships for Leadership Preparation and Development: Facilitators, Barriers and Models for Change was released Fall 2020. An additional book not included in the series was released Fall 2020: The Art and Science of Mentoring: A Festschrift in Honor of Dr. Frances Kochan.

She developed and implemented a graduate educational leadership study abroad experience in Australia in 2010. Each summer, Dr. Hahn and graduate students travel to Sydney to study with Australian school leaders.  The program has been successful for more than ten years. Over the past six years, Dr. Hahn has developed a second strand of experiences for Alabama educators through an administrator exchange program called LEAP. Alabama educators have the opportunity to exchange with Australian counterparts for a two-week study.

Partnering with the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) and the University of Alabama (UA), Dr. Hahn was a CO-PI of a $2.3 million U.S. Department of Education Rural Turnaround Leadership Preparation Pipeline Grant which enabled her to develop a rural turnaround leadership development program. A cohort of students graduated with leadership certification in instructional leadership in 2017. They have now become successful school administrators in Alabama schools and have continued to rise through administrative ranks.

Dr. Hahn is a native of Columbus, GA. She served in that community for 30 years as a teacher and school administrator prior to coming to Auburn. She began her Auburn career work in 2007 as an Assistant Professor. She served as the Educational Leadership Program Coordinator from 2007-2016, and resumed that role in February, 2020.

Dr. Hahn enjoys boating, swimming, and long walks. She loves to entertain friends and travel. She has one grown son, Ben.
