Dear Faculty Colleagues,
I am writing to share an update on steps underway to support an orderly transition following the Auburn University Board of Trustees’ recent adoption of the Board Policy on Academic Curricula, Courses, Syllabi, and Core Educational Requirements and the Board Policy on the Presidential Academic Advisory Council.
These policies authorize the President to establish transitional measures necessary to support the implementation, continuity, and the orderly conduct of the University’s academic responsibilities. In keeping with that direction, Auburn is taking several steps to advance this transition while maintaining continuity in its academic work. This period of transition also offers an opportunity to reaffirm the University’s enduring commitment to thoughtful academic deliberation, intellectual rigor, and the principled stewardship of the curriculum. It likewise underscores the shared responsibilities that sustain a serious academic community: careful judgment, disciplinary expertise, and a steadfast commitment to the institution’s educational purpose.
First, an ad hoc advisory transition team is being established to offer guidance on matters related to the University’s evolving academic advisory framework.
Second, to maintain continuity in Auburn’s academic work, certain existing academic committees will continue their responsibilities for the time being. Relevant committee chairs have been informed and asked to notify members accordingly.
As the transition proceeds, the name, composition, structure, scope, function, and other aspects of these particular committees will be reviewed and revised as needed to align with Board policy and the University’s new academic advisory framework. Pending additional direction, their continued work remains essential to the regular functioning of the University and the advancement of Auburn’s academic mission.
Third, a website is being developed to provide faculty with information, updates, timelines, and related guidance throughout the transition. Additional details will be shared as this resource becomes available.
Thank you for your continued service, professionalism, and care in support of Auburn’s academic mission. Your engagement will remain important as the University moves through this transition with clarity, deliberateness, and continuity. The insight, judgment, and sustained commitment of the faculty remain central to the strength of Auburn’s academic community and to the fulfillment of its educational mission.
