PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Only Fulton County, GA students who meet the following criteria are eligible to participate:

  • Completed the 10th grade
  • Maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • Submit a verification letter from the school counselor
 

All Auburn First students must meet the following requirements to participate and remain in the program:

  • Meet eligibility requirements
  • Complete an online application and submit a $50 application fee (waivers are available for students who qualify – see below)
  • Submit non-refundable $250 enrollment deposit applied to tuition $550 (waivers are available to students who qualify – see below)
  • Participate in an online orientation (0 credit hours and offered at no cost)
  • Fulfill all financial obligations

How to join

Meet with your school counselors to discuss dual enrollment opportunities. You will need their signature of support for you Auburn First application..

Complete an Auburn First application at aub.ie/auburnfirst

Ask your counselor to send your transcript and support form to the Auburn First Team at aufirst@auburn.edu.

Submit your non-refundable enrollment deposit after receiving your acceptance letter. This $250 deposit holds your spot in Auburn First and will be applied toward your tuition ($550 per course).

After receiving your Auburn username and student ID number, activate your account at auburn.edu/activate.

Your Student Success Coordinator will reach out to you to gather additional information and assist you in registering for class(es). Be sure to check your Auburn email address at owa.auburn.edu.

If you will be enrolling in an on-campus course, visit auburn.edu/medicalform to submit your medical form in the Clearwave system.

Complete the Auburn First online orientation which includes tips to successfully navigate your college courses.

**If you have ACT and SAT scores, you may send these test scores to Auburn University for course placement information only**

 

AUTOMATIC ADMISSION

 

Students who complete six (6) credit hours of approved coursework with a 3.0 or higher unadjusted cumulative GPA by August 15 of their senior year will qualify for automatic admission to Auburn University.

Auburn University’s agreement with Fulton County offers students a tuition waiver to reflect the Fulton County rate of $550 per course.

**There are no exceptions for seniors beginning fall 2022 per the program agreement**

**THE TUITION WAIVER IS NOT A RESIDENCY WAIVER. FULTON COUNTY, GA STUDENTS AUTOMATICALLY ADMITTED TO AUBURN THROUGH AUBURN FIRST ARE NOT GRANTED IN-STATE RESIDENCY STATUS.**

 

COURSE DETAILS

 

Auburn First courses are offered entirely online and are designed specifically with high school students in mind. That means there are no set class times, and students can work at their own pace around their busy high school schedule.

Current courses are listed on the back of this document. Auburn University regularly adds new courses to the program. Visit aub.ie/afcourses to view the most up-to-date list of approved Auburn First courses.

 

COURSE CREDIT

 

When taken for dual enrollment credit, grades earned in Auburn University courses count towards students’ college and high school GPA. Auburn First students are limited to a total of 24 credit hours.

 

INTENTIONAL SUPPORT

 

Auburn First faculty have designed their courses to meet quality and accessibility standards that will allow students to maximize their academic potential. Additionally, Auburn First students have access to several academic resources, including Academic Support tutoring services, University Writing, Adobe Creative Cloud, Office 365, and more.

 

TUTION WAIVER INFORMATION

 

Auburn University remains committed to ensuring Auburn remains affordable and accessible to Fulton County’s best and brightest students. While dual enrollment is beneficial to many high school students, Auburn also realizes that cost can be a prohibitive factor in a student’s decision to participate. Therefore, Auburn’s tuition waiver makes dual enrollment possible for Fulton County School System students with outstanding academic achievement and financial need.

  • Get admitted into Auburn First
  • Be a student in the Fulton County School System
  • Demonstrate financial need by meeting eligibility requirements for free or reduced lunch.

  • Step 2: Select - Application Fee Waiver
  • Step 3: Once accepted into the Auburn First program, a member of the Auburn First Team will verify your information
  • Step 4: Start earning college credit!

  • Demonstrates a financial hardship by qualifying for free or reduced lunch

Select “Application Fee Waiver” on your Auburn First application. Applicants requesting a fee waiver must provide documentation to ensure they are eligible. Once fully admitted into Auburn First, student information will be verified.

Tuition Waivers waive the tuition for approved Auburn First courses. However, additional course materials, such as textbooks, are not included. Students who need additional support for course materials should contact the Auburn First office.

Students remain eligible for a Tuition Waiver as long as they remain eligible and enrolled in Auburn First.

Yes. A Tuition Waiver may be renewed if students remain (1) eligible to participate, (2) enrolled in the Auburn First program, and (3) continue to qualify for free or reduced lunch.

The Tuition Waiver will waive the tuition for up to 24 credit hours of approved Auburn First coursework.

 

CONTINUOUS ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION

 

To prevent dual enrollment students from accumulating D or F grades on their college transcripts, the following requirement must be maintained for continuous eligibility:

  • Auburn First students who earn less than a 2.0 Auburn GPA in a given term will be required to sit out one semester (summer counts as a semester) and participate in Academic Coaching in their next term of enrollment. An updated letter of support from the high school counselor will also be required to enroll in future courses.
  • Auburn First students who earn a D or F in any Auburn course but finish the term with a 2.0 Auburn GPA or above will be required to participate in academic coaching during their next term of enrollment. An updated letter of support from the high school counselor will also be required to enroll in future courses.
  • Dual enrollment students must consult their high school counselors to ensure that the continuous eligibility policies at their school are also met.
 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR FULTON COUNTY, GA STUDENTS

 

To participate, Fulton County students must have completed 10th grade or higher and have a minimum 3.0 high school GPA.

Interested students may apply using the Auburn University application for admission. When completing the application, choose “Auburn First.”

Once students have submitted their enrollment deposit, the Auburn First student services team will reach out to the Auburn email address to assist them with course registration. Students should have activated their account and be checking their Auburn email to receive this information.

All Auburn First students are limited to a total of 24 credit hours.

No. Admission to Auburn University as a degree-seeking student can be achieved either through meeting the requirements for automatic admission through Auburn First OR applying through the regular admission process.

Students in Fulton County Schools participating in Auburn First qualify for automatic admission to Auburn University if they achieve the following:

  • Successfully complete six (6) or more credit hours of coursework listed on the Courses page by August 15 of their senior year
  • Earn a minimum cumulative 3.0 unadjusted Auburn University GPA

No. You will be taking the same courses we offer to undergraduate students at Auburn University.

Auburn First courses are offered to eligible Fulton County School System students at a flat fee of $550 per course. Once accepted to Auburn First, students must submit a $250 enrollment deposit to be applied toward tuition (waivers are available for students who qualify).

No. The tuition waiver is NOT a residency waiver. FULTON COUNTY, GA STUDENTS AUTOMATICALLY ADMITTED TO AUBURN THROUGH AUBURN FIRST ARE NOT GRANTED IN-STATE RESIDENCY STATUS

Auburn First students will have access to Auburn University academic resources, including the RBD Library, tutoring services, Office of University Writing, academic support, academic advising, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Office 365.
 
However, Auburn First students do not have access to Tiger Transit, athletic tickets and events, the student recreation center, student organizations, and on-campus student events.

Yes, you may enroll in online courses not listed on the Course page with approval from the Auburn First team. **However, any courses not listed do not count towards automatic admission.

No, only course tuition is covered. Additional expenses for textbooks and class supplies may be required. Students interested in additional support for the costs of course materials should contact the Auburn First team.

All billing is done electronically. An email notification is sent to your Auburn University email address when you have a bill to view. Students can access their eBill through AU Access.

Students who follow the timeline for completing their application and submitting course survey information to have best chance of getting requested courses.
 
Once a student applies and pays the enrollment deposit, the Auburn First team will reach out with a new Auburn email address and assist with course registration. This information will be emailed early to mid-March for summer/fall registration and early to mid-October for spring registration. Therefore, it is essential to register as early as possible to ensure a seat in a requested course.

Students will have until the 15th class day to drop from a course with no grade assignment and receive a tuition refund.
