In recognition of their scholarly achievements and contributions to Auburn’s mission, nearly 130 faculty members were honored at the university’s annual Promotion and Tenure Reception on September 13, 2023. Hosted by the Provost’s Office, the event included remarks from Trustee Liz Huntley, President Christopher Roberts, and Provost Vini Nathan.
Representing the Board of Trustees, Huntley fondly recalled her own Auburn journey – one that was largely influenced by the many faculty and staff members who invested in her success.
“Your work elevates our disciplines, while your expertise and mentorship inspire our students in ways that bring new levels of distinction to our campus,” said Huntley. “More importantly, the knowledge you create enriches our communities – inside and outside academia.”
Prior to the event, honorees were asked to select a book that personally impacted their lives and shaped their professional journeys, along with a brief statement describing its significance. Following the reception, the selections were designated with an official bookplate and added to the RBD Library’s permanent collection. The books and statements from the honorees were displayed during the reception.
During the 2022-2023 academic year, 58 faculty members were elevated to associate professor with tenure, 39 faculty members were promoted to professor (one with tenure), and six faculty members received tenure. Among the university’s non-tenure track faculty, 13 were promoted to senior lecturer, six received associate clinical professor, four were promoted to clinical professor, and a handful were promoted to associate research and extension professor.
“Institutions like Auburn could not exist without the commitment to excellence and dedication to scholarship our faculty bring to their roles,” said Huntley. “It is Auburn’s faculty who, collectively, make Auburn’s mission possible.”
