Undergraduate Distance Learning

All regularly admitted campus-based students are eligible to take Auburn University distance courses. A campus-based student may not exceed the maximum class hour load by adding a distance education course.

All non-traditional/distance education students must apply and meet Auburn University’s minimum admission requirements. Non-traditional/distant students will be permitted to register for distance courses only. These non-traditional/distance students are non-degree seeking students. Thus, a new application is required each academic year.  Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid.  A non-degree seeking student, who wishes to become a degree-seeking student, must apply to become a degree-seeking student and must meet the transfer requirements of 30 hours, including any Auburn University distance education courses, with an overall GPA of 2.5.

Changes & Rationale:
1) Remove 25 percent limit on percentage of degree earned by distance education to make development of distance education more attractive to departments and colleges.

2) Remove the requirement for resident students to receive special permission to enroll in a distance version of an undergraduate class if an on-campus version exists. This will allow on-campus undergraduates more flexibility in their scheduling.

3) Remove the requirement that seniors must complete independent distance education courses by midterm prior to graduation to make distance courses comparable to on-campus courses.

4) Remove the language about an “extended option” which is not currently in use for undergraduate distance education courses.

5) Provide information on the admissions process for non-degree seeking distance students and information on how they can change to degree-seeking students if desired.
