Minutes of the Steering Committee Meeting

In Attendance:  Kathryn Flynn, Dennis DeVries, Russ Muntifering, Bob Locy, Jim Wright, Bill Hames, Emmett Winn, Claire Crutchley, Mary Ellen Mazey

Absent:  David Shannon, Larry Crowley

--The meeting was called to order at 3:34 PM

--The minutes from the 14 September 2009 meeting were approved without change. 

--We discussed the calendar change resolution to be brought to the October 2009 Senate meeting.  Claire is still drafting the resolution, which will be sent to all Steering Committee members for input and final approval.  We discussed the nature of what to propose in the resolution, including decreasing the number of days in the calendar, whether to propose a single number or a range, etc.  We also discussed a wide array of options concerning the calendar, exam schedules, etc. 

--We then switched to a discussion of the October 2009 Senate meeting agenda. 

--The other action item on the agenda will be the Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s degree program. 

--There will be a report from Jim Wohl on the first year of the Ombudsperson’s office. 

--We returned to continue our discussion of the calendar change resolution; we concluded that the resolution will include a range of days, with 70-73 days in the fall and spring, and 48 days in the summer (with 2 24-day halves). 

--The meeting was adjourned at 4:42 PM.
