Under Dr. Laura Bilenker, she is currently an undergraduate research assistant for the Economic Geology and Geochemistry lab, studying epithermal gold deposits in Idaho to provide insight into the formation of these economic ore deposits. Aside from school, Glidewell enjoys being outdoors with friends, reading, and watching all things Disney. She feels blessed for the lessons learned and relationships formed over the past four years.

Dr. Laura Bilenker - Assistant Professor, Geosciences

Carly Glidewell was nominated for the Dean’s Medal because she is known throughout the Department of Geosciences as an outstanding student, model department citizen, and enthusiastic member of our community. She is an intelligent and hard worker, which is reflected in her high grades and excellent grasp of geologic concepts. Further, she has consistently been motivated to expand her skillset and experiences; in addition to her great academic success, she has served as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for our large introductory geology course, a grader for an online Geosciences class, an assistant with data entry in our Paleoclimate Stable Isotope Lab, and an undergraduate research assistant in my Economic Geology and Geochemistry Lab. Lastly, but equally as important, Carly is a reliable, collegial, and helpful peer within our student body. She also has a busy extracurricular life!

Beyond departmental academic and teaching activities, Carly is simply a great personality to be around; she is always positive, always willing to share an idea, and always asks questions. She really is the kind of student every professor loves to have in their class and/or research group.

It has sincerely been my pleasure to get to know Carly as a student, researcher, and person over the past year. My first version of this note became way too long as I began to recount the numerous ways that Carly excelled in and truly enriched our capstone field course last summer, my Economic Geology course this semester, and my research group. So, I’ll conclude by emphasizing that the Auburn Department of Geosciences is very proud to have Carly as a representative of our program, has appreciated her contributions as our student, and we look forward to cheering on her continued success after graduation. All the best, Carly!
