Katherine Hunter
Dean's Medal: Chemistry and Biochemistry
Katherine Hunter will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry. During her time at Auburn, she has been an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Anne Gorden’s lab, where she conducted research on the fundamental properties of actinides. From this research, she has been the second author on a published paper and has presented at both the Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society and Auburn’s Research Symposium. She has also worked as a Learning Assistant for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, as a tutor for the Athletics Department, and as a Plainsman’s Prep: A Bridge to Calculus tutor for incoming freshman.
She is a member of Alpha Omega Epsilon Sorority and was elected as philanthropy chair for the 2019-2020 school year. Hunter was also a member of the Auburn University Concert Band as a clarinetist for three years. In her free time, she loves to volunteer at the Southeastern Raptor Center, read fantasy novels, and play with her two pet parakeets. Hunter is attending the University of Michigan for a chemistry Ph.D. program, which she will be attending in the fall. She is grateful for all of the opportunities that Auburn and COSAM have offered and the lasting friendships she has made at Auburn.
