Anna Fouty
Dean's Medal: Biomedical Sciences
Anna Fouty will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical sciences and a Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition science.
As a freshman, Anna joined Best Buddies, eventually progressing to vice president, where she helped form friendships between Auburn students and adults with developmental disabilities in the Auburn area. This led her to also serve as an assistant track coach for Special Olympics, and the relationships that she has formed with other Auburn students and the adults in this community have been a very meaningful part of her time at Auburn.
In addition to these clubs, Anna also worked as a learning assistant for three semesters and is member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
During a shadowing experience, Anna became interested in the role that nutrition plays in disease, and this inspired her to add a nutrition science degree and work on a research focused on nutrition in the College of Human Sciences. Under the mentorship of Associate Professor of Nutrition, Dietetics, & Hospitality Management Geetha Thangiah, Anna received the Auburn University Undergraduate Research Fellow Award twice, and this allowed her to work on a research project on genetic and environmental components of childhood obesity.
Anna will begin medical school at the University of South Alabama this summer, and she is grateful for all of the opportunities she has had over the last four years to prepare her for this next step.
