Ruobing Chen
Dean's Medal: Biological Sciences
Ruobing Chen will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in microbial, cellular & molecular biology, with a focus on the cell & molecular biology option.
To prepare herself better for graduate level study and research, Robin has worked as an undergraduate research assistant in Biological Sciences Assistant Professor Joanna Sztuba-Solinska’s lab for two years, where she focused on a viral polyadenylated nuclear long non-coding RNA. Robin received the Fund for Excellence Undergraduate Research Award for her undergraduate research.
Robin has also been working as a physics learning assistant in the Auburn University Learning Assistant Program, which grants her more chances to connect with both the faculty in the Auburn University College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) and her fellow students. As a learning assistant, Robin is responsible for facilitating in-class discussions among smaller groups of students and therefore promoting connections between the instructor and the students in a larger classroom.
Outside of class, Robin hosts office hours twice a week to provide extra help for students. She also works with her fellow learning assistants on a regular basis to create practice worksheets and work through them with students during office hours.
Robin plans to continue to pursue research through a higher degree after graduation. She has thoroughly enjoyed her time as a COSAM student, while making life-long friends, and she is excited for the possibilities the future holds.
