Thomas named interim dean of Auburn’s College of Sciences and Mathematics

“I am deeply honored and humbled that the faculty, staff and students of COSAM have expressed their strong support for me to serve as their interim dean,” said Thomas. “During this transitional period, I am committed to providing leadership and continuity for the college and positioning COSAM to successfully welcome its next dean.”

Message from the Dean: Welcome to Ed Thomas as Interim Dean of COSAM

Yesterday you should have received the announcement that Dr. Edward Thomas, our current Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, will be serving in the role of Interim Dean starting on August 16, 2021. 

From now through the end August when I step down from the Dean position, Ed and I will work closely to ensure a smooth transition for the college.  We will be meeting with leaders of the various units of COSAM so that Ed can get up to speed on the full range of activities that are taking place within the college. Also, during this transition period we will work to rapidly identify and appoint an Interim Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies.

I enjoy the opportunity to create molecules that did not exist before,” Chen said. “Being a chemist enables me to help the research communities through developing novel methods that can be utilized in agrochemical industry, material science, and medicinal chemistry with improving the overall quality of lives as the ultimate goal.”

COSAM alumnus adds Fuller Award to his impressive list of accolades

Dr. Barry Lee Booth ’63 was recently recognized as the 2019 recipient of the Fuller Award, the most prestigious honor awarded to its alumni by the University of Alabama School of Dentistry Alumni Association. The presentation was made during a recent ceremony during the annual Gulf Coast Dental Conference. 

Dean Nicholas Giordano's Celebration of Service

Dean Nicholas Giordano was recognized at a Celebration of Service reception held at the Leach Science Center on June 23.  Friends, faculty, and alumni joined together to recognize his leadership and accomplishments during his eight years in COSAM, including the Leach Science Center expansion and addition, the growth of the Office of Inclusion, Equity and Diversity, and an increase in the college’s endowment.
