Attendees were able to see the breadth of research going on in COSAM. Faculty from across COSAM served as judges and provided valuable feedback to the undergraduate research presenters.

Auburn’s Boshell diabetes research program brings together faculty in fight against deadly diseaseChris Easley is leading a research team seeking to enhance biological measuring capabilities to better understand diabetes, heart disease and obesity. They are developing high-tech devices that could measure insulin or other hormones, like glucagon, in real time as a person takes insulin or a diabetes drug. The team is specifically studying how fat responds to stimuli like food or drugs, how fat secretes hormones and how that happens on a dynamic, short-time scale.

From Alabama to Washington, D.C.—A story of thanks and givingMore than miles span the distance between Glencoe, Alabama, and Washington D.C., for Dr. Kacie Saulters, a 2007 biomedical sciences graduate.
The nearly 700-mile stretch between her childhood home and the place she calls home today is paved with hard work, a medical degree, a thriving career as an associate professor of clinical medicine at Georgetown School of Medicine, a happy marriage, two children and too many fond memories to count. One of those blessings, she said, includes her years at Auburn University.
