Students explore research opportunities at COSAM Undergraduate Research Fair

Anna Traylor, academic advisor in COSAM’s Office of Student Services, stated, “Our goal in hosting the research fair is for undergraduate students to learn more about available research opportunities and to start thinking about what research areas may interest them most. Having multiple research labs at the fair is an easy way to connect students to labs, which hopefully eliminates some of the initial stress for students seeking research opportunities.”

R. Graham Cooks from Purdue University, this year’s Kosolapoff Award Winner, speaks about mass spectrometry

Graham Cooks, the Henry B. Hass Distinguished Professor in Analytical Chemistry from Purdue University, is the recipient of the Auburn University 36th Annual G. M. Kosolapoff Award. His research involves using mass spectrometry, the science and technology of ions. He leads experiments that provide immediate information during surgery in the operating room through direct tissue analysis.

 

“I am impressed with the graduate students here in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry,” said Cooks. “I have had engaging discussions with students from Nigeria, Brazil and China during my visit to Auburn.”

'Lunch N Learn' event showcases support AMSTI offers to schools and educators

AMSTI or the Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative held a ‘Lunch N Learn’ event to share their services for schools in their region.

 

“Our ’Lunch N Learn’ event welcomed 27 administrators including instructional coaches, school coaches and central office professionals,” said Pamela Norris, director of AMSTI.
