Auburn University researchers make their mark on solar system with named asteroidsSix researchers at Auburn University have asteroids named in their honor for their contributions to planetary science during the Asteroids, Comets, Meteors (ACM) conference held June 18-23 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
On June 21, Yaeji Kim, Youssef Moulane, John Noonan, Mohi Saki, Zexi “Lucy” Xing and Kumar Venkataramani were officially honored.
Science Matters takes students around the world to explore different habitatsDuring the week of June 19 - 23, young learners in Science Matters summer enrichment program, hosted by the Office of STEM Outreach, learned about our living world. First through fourth graders investigated unique habitats through exploration of different biomes including oceans, rainforests, caves and polar regions. Fifth and sixth grade students studied plants and the irreplaceable role they play in our world.
2023 MagNET Conference hosted by Auburn’s Department of PhysicsAuburn University’s Department of Physics recently hosted the 2023 MagNetUS Meeting in Auburn’s Academic Classroom and Laboratory Complex and Leach Science Center from June 12 to June 15, 2023. MagNetUS creates an ecosystem for a broad scientific community interested in magnetized plasma research. Plasma is a state of matter that consists of charged particles (ions and electrons), which can respond to external magnetic fields (i.e., become magnetized). Magnetized plasmas are at the heart of numerous important questions ranging from understanding the Sun’s interaction with the Earth’s magnetic field during space weather events to designing modern-day fusion reactors that will provide the world with clean energy.
