Check-in
luggage - maximum two pieces for 50lb. Each.
Carry-on
luggage - one computer bag and one carry-on (Watch out for size; some airports
are very strict. Hard cases may be forced to be checked in at the gate.)
Things to bring:
1.
Money, Money,
Money - US$5400
available/accessible for use. Cash, ATM card. (Please
notify your bank that you are going to Taiwan. ATM cards with PLUS or CIRRUS
usually have no problem). It would be good to have US$ cash,
around $300, to exchange in case the ATM does not work on the first arrival.
2.
Passport, picture ID, and student ID
(some museums offer student discounts with student ID).
3.
You may consider
a passport holder and a small wallet.
4.
One copy of your
passport separates from your passport
5.
At least seven
sets of clothes, underwear, and socks (less socks if you wear flip-flops).
6.
One set of nice
semi-formal clothes for more
formal meetings. (Some museums do not allow open-toe footwear).
7.
One pair of
casual shoes (for walking and hiking) and one pair of semi-formal shoes.
8.
Shorts and
swimming suit (Optional, may visit beaches)
9.
Flip-flop
(slippers) (You need footwear all the time;
no one bears feet - HOT and DIRTY)
10. Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, and towels (for
shower and maybe for cover). - Some could be purchased at the school's
convenience store on the first day.
11. A small roll of toilet paper and napkin.
12. Instant Hand Sanitizer (if more than three oz., put it
in check-in luggage)
13. Tylenol or Advil (for minor pain) and a first aid kit.
14. Sunglasses
and sunscreen (if you are sensitive
to sun or you WILL get sunburn)
15. Baseball cap or hat
16. Flashlight
17. Batteries or rechargeable batteries should be in
carry-on luggage.
18. Do not bring expensive items.
19.
No hair spray or any pressurized cans. No
lighter.
20. Sleeping bag / small air mattress (not required)
21. For check-in bottles with liquid, put them in Ziplock
bags.
22. Ensure you have the doctor's prescription if you bring
prescription drugs.
For Classes:
1.
Drawing and
writing tools such as markers, colored pencils, pastels, pencils, ball pen,
razor point, etc. (can be purchased on campus)
2.
Ellipse templates
(optional)
3.
A sketchbook and
a notebook (for sketching and jotting down notes while traveling).
Others:
1.
Cell phone
(tri-band) if you plan to use your present SIM card or purchase one
2.
Portable drive or
jump drive
3.
Camera
4.
Laptop Computer
and network cable. WiFi is available on campus.

Passport photos
For friends:
You may
want to prepare some small gift items for your new friends, such as
Auburn T-shirts, Auburn Caps, or anything with the Auburn logo but unbreakable.
Every year, we have students ask families to send because of not bringing any.
(It might be cheaper at Walmart than the University Book Store).
