In an effort to combat a public health crisis that affects those in Alabama and throughout the country, Auburn University’s Harrison School of Pharmacy established the Center for Opioid Research, Education and Outreach, or Coach.

The center unifies a variety of existing programs and research going on at the Harrison School of Pharmacy, or HSOP. These programs include educational efforts on the use of naloxone, the opioid antidote; research funded by the United States Department of Justice on synthetic and designer drugs; outreach efforts training professionals across the state on how to combat the opioid crisis; and many others.

Auburn University’s McCrary Institute for Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Security exists to provide practical solutions to real-world problems, being designed to enhance the nation’s security across the public and private sectors.

Founded in 2015 through a generous donation to Auburn University by the Alabama Power Foundation in honor of its retiring CEO and Auburn alumnus Charles D. McCrary, the Institute fuses theory with practice, and policy with technology, to protect and advance U.S. interests in the areas of cyber and critical infrastructure security. The Center for Cyber and Homeland Security is part of the McCrary Institute, and drives the policy component of the Institute’s work.

Auburn’s pioneering, collaborative research is enhancing the capabilities of dogs to protect us by their detection of hazardous substances. The Auburn Dog™ is internationally recognized as being of the highest quality and capability for the interdiction of chemical, biological and explosive threats in airports, train stations, sports arenas and on city streets.

The Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center is currently under construction at Auburn University and will house Auburn’s hospitality management program in the College of Human Sciences, providing students interested in hospitality and culinary science careers with hands-on learning experiences in a luxury boutique hotel (The Laurel) and a teaching restaurant (1856), as well as a range of classrooms and cutting-edge demonstration and food production laboratories. It is a first-of-its-kind building at Auburn in that it blends a major academic component with revenue generating elements. It is the only culinary facility in the world to have these features.
