PhD and MS-Thesis Degree Programs

Admission Dates and Deadlines:

PhD and MST applicants:

  • Complete application packets must be received by the department by Feb. 1 in order to be considered for admission and awarding of regular support Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTAs) for the Fall Semester.
  • Acceptance of admission and regular support GTA offer is expected by April 15 for Fall Semester.
  • Applications for admission to Spring, Summer, and Fall (without a regular support GTA award) Semesters will also be accepted. Complete application packets must be submitted at least 45 days prior to the start of the first day of the semester you wish to enter for domestic students and 90 days for international students.

Applications are reviewed by Graduate Selection Committee. Regular support GTAs are highly competitive and the number of awards is limited, so not every qualified applicant can be offered support. Students can be admitted without a guarantee of support from the Department. Acceptance will be based on a combination of factors including:

  • Faculty Sponsorship (PhD and MST only)
  • Academic performance (e.g. curriculum, GPA, and research experience)
  • Letters of recommendation
  • GRE and TOEFL scores
  • Letter of Intent

Financial support:

PhD and MS-T applicants:

  • All PhD and MS-T applicants with complete application by Feb. 1 are automatically considered to be candidates for Regular Support Graduate Teaching Assistantships. No additional application is needed to apply for assistantships.

    • For all PhD and MS-T candidates that currently have a GTA assignment who are seeking support for additional semesters will need to submit an GTA Additional Support Form.
