Patkowski awarded professional improvement leave

Dr. Konrad Patkowski was awarded the competitive professional improvement leave funded by the Provost's Office. Dr. Patkowski will spend Spring 2018 conducting research at the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany).

Easley selected to RSC Editorial Board

Christopher J. Easley, the Knowles Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry in COSAM, has been selected to serve as an Associate Editor for the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) journal, Analytical Methods. In January of 2017, he visited Cambridge, UK for the annual Editorial Board meeting, and he will begin his 3-year term on the board in late February of 2017. Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Connie Faro, biomedical sciences ’95

Connie Faro is an OB/GYN at the Women’s Hospital of Texas. Faro works alongside her uncle and cousin, delivering more than 200 babies each year. She was recently featured on The Today Show’s series, “24 Hours With…” where a camera followed her for a full day.

“Drink Beer! Save a Species!” is the new mantra of the College of Sciences and Mathematics’ Alabama Natural Heritage Program, which has teamed up with Red Clay Brewery in Opelika to conserve native Alabama wildlife. Beginning Thursday, Feb. 23, one dollar of each pint sold of a new brew, Drymarchon Berliner Weisse, will benefit conservation efforts of COSAM scientists who are working to reintroduce the Eastern Indigo snake to the Alabama landscape.

The drive to strive: COSAM to host regional, state Science Olympiad

COSAM students study abroad in Swaziland, South Africa

Michael Wooten and Christine Sundermann of the Department of Biological Sciences, and Leslie Cordie of the College of Education, led a hands-on study abroad experience in Swaziland, South Africa.
Seven Auburn students from a variety of majors, including plant pathology, pre-vet and pre-med, spent 18 days camping while doing fieldwork across Swaziland and experiencing different cultures. The Department of Biological Sciences provided support for two undergraduates from the University of Swaziland to attend the course, allowing an opportunity for cross-cultural learning.
