COSAM Student to Take Military Path Towards Becoming a Doctor

Auburn University student Sam Forbes will soon go from being a college student to serving her country. The senior from Woodstock, Georgia, is studying Biomedical Sciences with a pre-med concentration through the College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) and plans to join the military after graduation next year.

Yale University’s Dr. Michael Landis Discusses Research as a Biogeographer

Dr. Michael Landis is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Ecology and Evolution Biology at Yale University. He spoke about "Joint Bayesian inference of phylogeny and biogeography with examples in Viburnum and silverswords" at Auburn University’s Department of Biological Sciences on January 17. His presentation discussed his role as an evolutionary biologist, researching how species diversify in a spatial context. The foundation of his research is that phylogeny and biogeography are coequal and can be used together for a joint analysis for molecular and biogeographic data.

The College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) offers all students an opportunity to be more involved through the COSAM Leaders student organization.  COSAM Leaders represent the college at a full array of events throughout the year. These outstanding students showcase the mission of COSAM and promote the pride of this leading college. Through these events, students have unique opportunities to connect with COSAM administration, network with alumni and assist perspective students and their parents at recruitment events/tours. These interactions led to advice and input from seasoned professionals. This year, the COSAM Leaders participated at the Dean's 23rd Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament held at Robert Trent Jones at Grand National. Leaders welcomed guests and helped the COSAM Development Office with numerous aspects of the golf tournament

Alabama Has Second Highest Growth in the Nation for VEX Robotics – The 2019 Southern Regional VEX Robotics Conference Provides Essential Training for Teachers

Alabama has the second highest growth in the nation and is in the running for the highest growth in the entire nation for VEX IQ robotics. Since last year, VEX teams have increased from 341 teams to 551 teams throughout the state.  Much of this growth is due to Auburn University’s Mission 100 initiative to start 100 new elementary robotics teams in Alabama in 2018-2019.

Save the Date – Third Annual Auburn Azalea Festival is April 20
