Service Learning Colloquia Speakers
Kent Andersen
Kent Andersen directs the Hess Center for Leadership and Service at Birmingham-Southern College, where he teaches courses on leadership and assists with leadership development across campus. He also teaches courses in English composition, literature, and science fiction, as well as a course on the creative process. During BSC's January term, he has participated in service-learning projects in Washington, DC, San Francisco, India, and Ecuador.
Kristin Harper
Kristin Harper is the Director of Service-Learning in the Bunting Center for Engaged Study and Community Action at Birmingham-Southern College. A 1992 graduate of BSC where she contracted an interdisciplinary major in religion and sociology, Kristin has served as youth director at a large United Methodist Church, and facilitated prejudice reduction and conflict resolution workshops. She joined the staff at Birmingham-Southern in 1999. She has established and strengthened community partnerships at the College, helped develop course-based service-learning projects, and designed local, national and international service-learning projects during the January term and for alternative spring break.
