Why AFROTC at Auburn?
Welcome to Detachment (Det) 005, Auburn University’s Air Force ROTC unit! Det 005 was recently championed as a Top 10% detachment in the nation. We pride ourselves in producing excellent leaders of character, officers with technical degrees, aviation officers, and academically superior officers of aptitude. With a cadet wing of approximately 150 dedicated and motivated individuals, Det 005 offers a unique blend of academic excellence, leadership development, and physical fitness training.
Leadership Development
At Auburn, we help our students grow into confident and capable leaders. Through training, mentorship, and practical experience, cadets learn how to lead under pressure and work effectively with others. The program builds important skills like communication, accountability, discipline, and sound decision making. These are qualities that help not only in military service, but also in school, careers, and everyday life.
Strong Community
We're more than just a program. Cadets are within a close knit community of people who push each other to improve and succeed. The friendships, mentorship, and shared experiences create a support system that lasts throughout college and after commissioning. Being part of our program means being surrounded by others who are working toward the same goals and helping each other along the way.
Scholarships
There are various scholarship opportunities that can help make college more affordable. These scholarships may cover tuition, provide book allowances, and include monthly stipends for eligible cadets. Cadets are eligible to compete for scholarships at any point in the program, including before. Most scholarships are awarded after the completion of Field Training as cadets enter the Professional Officer Course.
Commissioning
Our program provides students with a direct path to becoming commissioned officers in the United States Air Force or Space Force after graduation. Cadets are able to complete their college degree while also preparing for military leadership and service. This allows students to graduate with both an education and a clear professional path ahead of them. It is a unique opportunity to serve the country while starting a meaningful career.
