Advisory Board

Please Welcome Our Advisory Board

This highly skilled team serves as an advocacy group to further the goals and aims of the Office of Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity (OIED). The main objective of the Advisory Board (Board) is to advocate for initiatives which will assist in the fulfillment of COSAM OIED's vision to enhance diversity, inclusion, and equity within the College.  By providing advice and financial assistance, the advisory board, enhances and grows the academic and personal support programs provided by OIED. Their persistent efforts have aided in the recruitment, retention, and engagement of exceptional undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty and staff from groups traditionally underrepresented in STEM. The Board presents a unified voice to advocate on behalf of the office in matters that directly and indirectly affect diversity within the College, the University, the State and beyond.

Al Lugo, LTC.

"It’s an insight into the future by learning other cultures and backgrounds, as it allows you/me to not only be a better person, but a more understanding and well rounded individual when dealing with other people that you do not know!"

Mrs. Audrey Goins Cormier

"I am honored to participate on the COSAM Diversity Advisory Committee because it’s vital to insure that all perspectives and points of view are valued and respected. When we create open dialogue and expand opportunities for all, we benefit from the unique contributions that diverse individuals – students, faculty, alumni and others - bring to the table. As a result, our organizations become more successful and everyone wins!"

Mrs. Bell Rogers

"Diversity: The inclusion of ideas from all points of view, races, and class that allow for a complete and equal understanding of how to achieve unified goals."

Ms. Charria Campbell

"Diversity is inclusiveness and bridging the gap between all races, genders, thoughts and ideas, ethnicities, educational backgrounds, cultures, religious denominations and other defining factors so that we all can live, work, learn and interact socially in a peaceful and meaningful world. It is not just the acceptance of others but it is also respecting someone for who they are, where they are, and what they believe."

Herman Turner, Ph.D

"Diversity is the inclusion of individuals from different backgrounds which include race, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, religion beliefs and other ideologies."

Kristy Lee Scott, J.D.

"Diversity is the coming together of those from different backgrounds in way that allows each individual’s differences to shine, while adding value to the overall experience of the group."

Vincent Ortiz, Ph.D

"Tomorrow belongs to societies that develop the talents of their citizens to the fullest extent possible and in no field of endeavor is this need more urgent than in science. Leadership in discovery is often personified by individuals who have a different perspective, an alternative way of thinking or experiences of life that differ from those of the majority.  Institutions of science and education benefit from vigorous policies of inclusion that develop diverse talents for the benefit of all."
