In this program, students will have the opportunity to learn about the South African Healthcare System and how it differs from the U.S. through guest lectures, tours of healthcare facilities and shadowing opportunities with clinicians in the city of Cape Town. There will also be cultural excursions included such as: a full day safari, penguin watching at Cape Point, Robben Island Museum, and more.

Visit what is known as the “World’s Greatest Genetic Laboratory.” Students will visit with the faculty of medicine at the school of Health Science at the University of Iceland as well as explore the genetic testing history on native Icelanders through Decode. A genetic sequencing company located in Reykjavik that has been analyzing thousands of Icelandic Genomes for over 20 years assisting in medical and genetic research.

The origins of healthcare as we know it spans over 500 years of history. Students will have exclusive access to private museums that only qualified practitioners and students in recognized courses in medicine may access. Students will experience medical-themed walking tours, guest lectures by medical professionals, and tours of the medical schools at both King’s College London and the University of Sheffield.

Through exclusive access to medical museums, students will be exposed to the origins of healthcare and its impact on modern medicine. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in tan anatomy workshop, learn about Scottish medical history at the University of Edinburgh and University of Dundee Medical Schools, and explore Edinburgh through historical walking tours rooted in medicine. Students will learn about Grave-Robbing in the 1800s and how the unethical practice was fueled by the shortage of cadavers for medical school.

Students will spend at least 20 Hours a week shadowing in a wide range of medical specialties in both public and private hospital and clinical settings. This program is open to all language abilities though some Spanish preferred. One week shadowing and traveling in Morocco Excursions to places like Malaga or Casablanca, and 1-2 DAY EMT Bootcamp Training are included. This program also includes homestay aspect, where students live with local families for an immersive experience.

Explore the history and culture of mathematics and technology! Compare the historical significance and modern practice of math and tech in Greece. Featured sites include: the National Archaeological Museum, a cooking class in a Greek tavern, ancient Olympia, Katakolo’s Museum of Ancient Greek Technology, Hellenic Mathematical Society, Acropolis, Pythagorio, Samos Island, and the Temple of Hera
