Auburn Christmas Bird Count

Participants are needed for the Auburn Christmas Bird Count that will take place on Saturday, Dec. 15 from pre-dawn to 5 p.m. Participants can count for as little as 30 minutes or as much as all day. The area included in the count encompasses a circle of approximately 7.5 miles in radius that is centered near the Publix Shopping Center on Moores Mill Road. Volunteers within the area can count birds in their backyards and neighborhoods or volunteer to be assigned an area such as Keisel Park, Chewacla Park or Town Creek Park. The final tally will take place on the Auburn campus at 5:30 p.m. in 302 Funchess Hall. Anyone interested in participating should contact Biological Sciences Professor Geoff Hill, curator of birds for the Museum of Natural History, at ghill@auburn.edu. Hill will also accept bird totals via email. Data collected in Auburn will be sent to a national database that enables scientists to monitor bird distributions and abundances.
