BioLunch - Ice Cream Social - DBS

Time: Mar 11, 2015 (12:00 PM)
Location: Funchess Hall 362

Details:

All,

At the March 11th BioLunch, my advisor Jonathan Armbruster will present information on a new initiative in the department to provide graduate students the opportunity to invite seminar speakers.

BSGSA will also be providing ice cream! So feel free to come by and grab some ice cream and hear about these new changes and discuss with other graduate students potential seminar speakers! Each core can suggest their own seminar speakers, so make sure that a core you would like to join gets organized and gets heard by the faculty. Or at least grab some ice cream and socialize!

So I know how much ice cream we need, please RSVP as early as possible, and let me know if you have any dietary restrictions or requested flavors/toppings besides the common chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry.

See additional information from Jon below:

As you may or may not know, the Biological Sciences Faculty have voted on four core areas for the department (below). In addition, they are implementing a new seminar structure and offering the graduate students an opportunity to invite one seminar speaker per core area per semester. The purpose of next week’s biolunch (March 11, noon, Funchess 362), is to have the core area representatives introduce the cores and then have the graduate students break into groups to begin discussing how they will propose names for seminar speakers. So if you want to influence who will be speaking next year, please come, and come with names. If you can’t come, come up with some names and justifications for them and send them with a friend or to me. The purpose is to get high quality, interesting speakers to give talks.

Check out the cores in the Biological Sciences page (http://www.auburn.edu/academic/cosam/departments/biology/dbs_core_areas/). Most of you will probably align like your advisors, but some may not. The cores are:
