Abstract:  By a Hausdorff arc we mean a compact connected Hausdorff space with exactly two non-cutpoints.  Suppose that each of $A$ and $B$ is a Hausdorff arc and $M$ is a hereditarily indecomposable subcontinuum of $A × B$.  Then $M$ is a metric continuum and each of its projections onto $A$ and $B$ are metric arcs.
