Details: Speaker: Robert Dixon Title: Why care about category theory?
Abstract: This talk will introduce an application of category theory to algebra. First, we'll cover the basics of category theory, building up to different types of equivalences. Then I will go into some uses of category theory in algebra, specifically the Bernstein-Gel'fand-Gel'fand (BGG) correspondence. I'm also more than happy to answer any questions about choosing an advisor, what it's like to study algebra, and whatnot. |
