The Office of Public Service in University Outreach has four 1-year positions and five 9-week summer associates positions available immediately. If you are looking for a great service opportunity or looking for something to do while taking a GAP year, this is a great opportunity. The following positions are available:

Summer Associates

The summer associates will work in the areas of Rural Health, k-12 initiatives, and food insecurity. The SA will help provide direct service for these programs by working with these projects hands-on. For the Rural Health project, the SA will be in Chambers County, AL. Rural Health

University Outreach is addressing significant health disparities across rural Alabama in partnership with Pharmacy, Nursing, Human Sciences, and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. This accessible and innovative healthcare option combines the state-of-the art OnMed® telehealth station with hands-on wellness care provided through university faculty and students in health-related fields. The telehealth station provides users with a an affordable, private, and efficient experience by facilitating a real-time patient encounter with an Alabama licensed clinician in a virtual setting through the use of diagnostic tools available for practitioner-guided self-use.

The Auburn University team members have worked closely with leaders from the City of Lafayette, Alabama and the Chambers County Commission to develop and launch this project. This collaboration resulted in identifying a vacated health clinic as the ideal location for the Chambers County Community Health and Wellness Center. Campus Kitchen/AuburnServes

In every community, there are people who need nourishing meals, and every college campus has unserved food in its dining halls and people who need this food. Students on campus volunteer to pick up the unserved food from the dining halls, re-package and store the food, and distribute the food to students, faculty, staff, post-doc students, and the community through Auburn Family Meals or through other community programs. Auburn University has a mission of Outreach – engaging the community to improve the quality of life for our citizens.

Auburn University Outreach encourages students to take an active role in fulfilling our mission by volunteering and getting involved with local organizations through our AuburnServes Network. The university offers innovative ways for students to engage in a variety of service learning and experiential education activities locally, regionally, and even internationally. These opportunities support learning by application and reflection in course-based service, field experience, directed study, and other engagement experiences. Center for Educational Outreach and Engagement

Auburn University’s commitment to public engagement includes a strategic goal to partner with units within University Outreach, school districts, government, and non-profit organizations to provide initiatives specifically designed to prepare underserved K-12 students in the state of Alabama for college and or the workforce. In tapping into the human and intellectual resources of Auburn University and other partnerships, the Center for Educational Outreach and Engagement (CEOE) will provide academic, social, and cultural experiences to these students with the intention of leveraging their opportunities for success in college and society at-large.

Additionally, CEOE is mindful of 21st Century skills that students will need as global citizens. Hence, CEOE will develop and implement programs and experiences that enhances international exchange and expands the global capabilities of students. Existing Programs in CEOE are as follows: Young Professionals in Training (YPiT), a mentoring and tutoring program for students in 5th–12th grades. The goal of the program is to empower participants and offer a pathway to Auburn University through a curriculum that encompasses academic, social, and emotional support. The program is a collaboration between Auburn University Outreach, Truman Pierce Institute (TPI), and the Curtis House, a local non-profit agency; Learning Spaces Saturday School is designed to provide hands-on activities for students on Saturdays.

The program provides hands-on activities for students including local field trips, sessions on character building, wellness, art, natural sciences, history, STEM, global awareness, and other interesting topics; and Outreach Student Ambassadors includes students who are dedicated to assisting Auburn University Outreach in developing, promoting, and supporting university programs that serve the broader community.
