Assistant Director, Academic Assessment

Dr. Dorothy Musselwhite Thompson serves as the Assistant Director of Academic Assessment within the Office of Academic Insight. She supports the assessment of student learning across Auburn University’s twelve academic colleges and 300+ academic degree programs. She coordinates and leads Auburn University’s internal assessment feedback system and annual Meta-Assessment Institute. In addition, Thompson consults with faculty and creates professional development events to support high quality assessment practices and learning improvement initiatives. Thompson also facilitates the Academic Program Review process for Auburn University.

Prior to joining the team, Thompson was the Assistant Director of Assessment at Kansas State University where she assisted with program- and college-level accreditation and student learning assessment.

Thompson earned a PhD in music education from the University of Georgia, where she specialized in educational and music psychology as well as measurement and assessment. She has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in music education, and taught music, science, and mathematics in the Georgia public school system for five years. She lives in Alabama with her husband, Eric, their son, Henry and doodle, Winnie.
