Dear Colleagues,
As we prepare for the fall semester, our goal is to ensure that every faculty member has the resources, training, and information needed to successfully create and publish course syllabi using Simple Syllabus. To support that effort, we wanted to share a few important updates and available resources.
Thank you to everyone who joined us last Friday for our first faculty training session on Simple Syllabus. We were pleased to have nearly 300 faculty and staff attend and appreciate the thoughtful questions and feedback.
If you attended and have questions that were not answered during or after the session, please email us at syllabus@auburn.edu. For those who were unable to attend, a recording of the session has been posted to the Syllabus Success website.
Accessing Simple Syllabus
Simple Syllabus will be available through Canvas and at https://auburn.simplesyllabus.com/en-US/ beginning August 3, following final testing and system configuration. Once the site is live, the Simple Syllabus tool will appear in your Canvas course navigation menu (see screenshot below).
Publishing Your Syllabus
Faculty have two options for publishing course syllabi in Simple Syllabus:
Option 1: Upload Your Existing Syllabus
If you already have a completed syllabus, you can simply upload it into Simple Syllabus. This feature was enabled following the adoption of the Board of Trustees Policy on Academic Curriculum, Courses, Syllabi, and Core Educational Requirements to make the transition easier and more efficient.
To learn how to upload your syllabus, please visit the Simple Syllabus Knowledge Base and review Creating Syllabi by using Document Upload. (A Knowledge Base account is required to access these resources and can be easily created on the website using your name and Auburn email.)
Option 2: Create Your Syllabus Using the Simple Syllabus Template
For faculty who prefer to create or edit their syllabus directly within the platform, Auburn's Simple Syllabus template provides a simple, user-friendly experience. The template includes both required and optional syllabus components, with university policy statements already populated to save time and ensure consistency. Suggested guidance is also included for optional sections, and course materials will automatically populate for faculty who work with the Auburn University Bookstore.
If you would like to begin preparing your syllabus before August 3, you can use the Microsoft Word template available on the Resources Tab of the Syllabus Success website.
To learn more about editing your syllabus in the system, please review the Instructor Editing Guide available in the Simple Syllabus Knowledge Base.
Faculty Training Opportunities
To help support faculty during the implementation of Simple Syllabus, we will be hosting Simple Syllabus Zoom Room Drop-In Sessions every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., now through August 20, 2026. Faculty are welcome to join at any time during these sessions to ask questions, learn how to create and publish a syllabus, troubleshoot issues or just receive general guidance. No registration is required.

Please continue to visit the Syllabus Success website throughout the implementation process, as new resources, updates, and guidance will continue to be added.
Thank you for your partnership and flexibility as we implement Simple Syllabus. We appreciate your engagement and look forward to supporting you throughout this transition.
Sincerely,
